Turf care without chemicals…
What is the purpose of chemicals in turf care? Isn’t the process of bugs and disease killing susceptible grasses a natural occurrence? What are left behind are species and varieties of grass that are resilient. So, aren’t these pest a good thing? I guess the thing we dislike is the damage that is left behind.
So what should be done when this event takes place? Should we discipline the pest for doing something beneficial with death? How about doing something beneficial for all and integrate newer grasses that are resilient to these pest? It is well founded that integrating endophyte enhanced grasses will kill chewing insects and beneficial insects will survive. Also, when it comes to diseases many grasses are non susceptible to many common diseases.
When it comes to weeds. Via the strategy of choking them out and the use of alleotrophic species can really manage non acceptables. In this time of litigation, reduction of chemicals that can be used, licensing, etc…maybe the real solution is a bag of seed.
