If you really have a densely shaded area where it is difficult to get grass to grow, this is the only choice you have. If this doesn't do it, you have two choices… cut the tree down or forget about having grass!

Shady Grass® is a mix of the most shade-tolerant grasses that are available. This mix is predominately fine fescue, with just a small amount of poa trivialis and perennial ryegrass. It is not designed for full sun environments.

An important point to remember about this product is that it needs to be allowed to dry out. Most of the time an irrigation system will water both the sunny area and the shaded area at the same time. As a result, the shaded area never gets to dry out which creates an anaerobic environment, making it difficult for the grass to survive.

This mix is soft-textured with a good medium green color. Shady Grass® will hold its color well into the winter (northern climates). It doesn't need to be thatched and the water requirements are minimal (because of the shade). It won't creep into the shrub beds. It would be transitional in the hotter climates of the South.

Shady Grass® should be mowed between 1/2"-3.5". Fertilization is every 4-6 weeks when it is nondormant. The recommended seeding rate is 7-10#/1,000 sq. ft.
